Census: over 40% of the population in Saudi Arabia consists of non-Saudis

Saudi Arabia wanted an answer to the question how many Saudi citizens are in the country, so following its first census since 2010, the kingdom released figures showing that citizens make up 58% of Saudi Arabia’s 32.2 million population. The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) has revised Saudi Arabia’s historical population numbers for the 2010-2021 period as it released the new Saudi Census 2022 results through a back-casting exercise:

• Total population: 32.2 million
• Saudis: 18.8 million people (58.4 percent)
• Non-Saudis: 13.4 million (41.6 percent)
• Median age (Saudi citizens): 25.5 (vs. 34 for non-Saudis)
• Under 30 (Saudi citizens): 63% of the Saudi population

54% of others are migrant workers from Asia, and about 38% are from the wider Middle East.

The total population is up 34% since 2010, but that’s after revising the previous statistics, claiming the 2010 census over-counted Saudis by about 34%. 30,000 Saudi field investigators took part in gathering census information.
